Do Something that Scares You – Push your Boundaries

Do Something that Scares You - Push your BoundariesThere’s something to be said for taking baby steps toward a goal with full confidence that you will likely achieve each step successfully.

In fact, it’s so effective that we’ll talk about it next. However, there’s also a time to push yourself just a bit harder.

Do something or set a goal that you might not achieve.

Try something that frightens you just a little bit.

For example, maybe you want to write a book but haven’t started the project because you fear rejection from publishers. There is nothing to stop you from self-publishing.  There is no rejection like there is with the traditional book publishing process.  We have other options now.

When you learn to face your fears, and do things that frighten you, you begin to build your confidence.

It won’t make things less frightening, but it will make it easier to face those fears with confidence.

The more you face the things that frighten you, the better you will get in doing them and they won’t seem so bad after a while.

Videos: I’m not comfortable with doing videos and I often talk myself out of doing them but I do know that with video your blog and your message gets out to more people.  More people equates to more traffic and visitors to your site.

Three Important Steps You Can Take to Overcome Fear:

  1.  Identify what you are afraid of.
  2.  Realize that the fear is just something you’ve created to get in your own way.
  3.  Determine what benefits you will receive once you overcome the fear and move on.

Now once you’ve accomplished the three steps above, don’t let those fears prevent you from your end goal that you have decided for yourself.

One thing I have found that helps is to make your plans public so you will hold yourself accountable for the new tasks ahead that you have planned for yourself.

A great example is my Weight Loss Facebook Live Videos on Thursdays, which are my weigh-in days.  I am happy to say that in 3 months I’ve only missed one weigh-in video and that was just the other day (July 20, 2017).  Had some life issues get in the way but I’ll be back on track this week.  If you missed it, here is my last video I did on my Weight Loss Journey – Keep Me Accountable.

Wishing you a productive and awesome week ahead.

Don’t forget to share with your friends and associates and I thank you.

  1. Hi Monna, I do understand. We do have to “Feel the far, and do it anyway.” There are those days when we need to push through despite ourselves and others. I’m glad you posted this tonight. It’s a good reminder. And It does get easier, the more you do something.

  2. Hello Monna! I just loved your post here today! I did just step up a few days ago and did something WAY OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE! I am grateful that I had the courage to tackle this situation, yet a little let down about a few things. BUT the good news is, it is time to move on to new and better things..

Your 3 steps were right on target to my friend!
    Thanks for sharing..

    • Hey Chery, Good for you. I believe there’s going to be a little something in everything we do that may not seem quite right or beneficial to us. The main key is to “Keeping on, Keepiing on” and not let anyone deter you from your dreams and plans. I’m glad I could help you in some way this week. Have a good one.

  3. Thanks for these words of encouragement, this has been very helpful.

  4. Excellent advice. I grew up surrounded by people crippled by their fears and became fiercely determined not to follow in the family tradition so as an adult, I tend to be rather tenacious about pushing through anything that smacks of fear. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Hi Marquita, I think it’s great that you were able to see a pattern in your own family that you wanted to change. I didn’t see it so early but I guess what’s important is that we did see. Thank you for visiting and commenting.

  5. Hi Monna,

I like those three steps you have given to help overcome fear. With the technology changing constantly, I do have fears to learn something new but then I think not of me, but of my business.

“Ill do this for my business” is my mantra and it gets me over the fear hump all the time.

  7. Hi Monna Monna
Nice site btw. Fear is just…
I have that one memorized. Like your 3 steps!
It’s really fun to do something that scares you to death. Gives you confidence!!!

  8. Hi Monna,

I love your definition of what fear is, “something you’ve created to get in your own way.” That’s true. What we are afraid of is probably afraid of us, too.

There’s an uncommon courage that comes upon you as soon as you state yours fears, face and crush them. That’s what I love doing.
