Take Good Care of Yourself

Take Good Care of Yourself

Take_Good_Care_of_YourselfIt’s difficult to feel confident when you don’t feel well. Taking care of yourself and your health has a dramatic impact on your confidence level. If you eat well, exercise, and get enough sleep then finding or even faking confidence is much easier.

Identify a few key areas where you might take a little bit better care of yourself. Start implementing those habits into your life right away. In fact, you might create a goal and track your success.

I’ve never really been one to pay attention to “taking care of myself” and “eating right.”  Although not the best method to live by, I figured you only live once, so what the heck.

Then comes the day when you take a good look at yourself in the mirror and realize “Finally” what you have let happen to yourself.  You are way overweight and having problems breathing and just generally  don’t feel good and you are tired and lazy.

Although a lot of my extra eating was caused by stress, I still let it get way out of hand.  My daughter is getting married August 31st, 2017 and I decided it was time for me to lose some weight before then.

I do have to admit that since starting on the Weight Watchers Points System (Aff.) I have felt so much better and my breathing has improved.  I’ve lost a total of 28 pounds so far since starting on WW on April 6, 2017 and I have every intention of continuing to lose more weight after my daughter’s wedding, to get down to a reasonable weight.

Take Good Care of YourselfI’m still a little too heavy to do much exercise but hoping to do more of that as I lose more weight.

You can read a little more about my Weight Loss Journey on my other blog MonnaEllithorpe.com

But I have gotten a little bit off track.  The point is that once you start feeling better by taking care of yourself and eating right, you do feel more confident and you will have a renewed sense of enthusiasm about the work you do online.

I’ve noticed a big difference in my attitude towards my writing and blogging since losing just the 28 pounds so far.  I actually look forward to writing again instead of trying to convince myself I need to take a nap: all afternoon.

So for Number 5 of the Top 10 Ways to Become More Confident; eat right, exercise (my downfall so far) and get plenty of sleep.

You will feel so much better, both mentally and physically and that in turn will build confidence and self-esteem.

With renewed confidence and self-esteem, you will look forward to each morning when you can start brand new on that writing project, a painting you have started, drawing or gardening.  The hobbies are endless.

  1. Hi Monna, You’re doing great and are inspiring many. We do need to take care of ourselves…but for many of us we put it at the end of our to do lists. If we want to live a long healthy life this needs to move to the front of the list…and I’m talking about me. Thanks for sharing this. I’m glad you’re still going strong.

    • Hi BG, Thank you. I agree, I’ve put it (self care) at the end of my list most of the time. Changing my way of thinking a bit after realizing what I’d let happen to myself. Yes, more to lose but still too embarrassed to say exactly how much. I’ll do that in time.

  2. Hi Ms. Monna,

I can relate to you in a lot of ways. Exercise is not my favorite thing so I try to do things like squats and leg lifts whenever I get up from my desk.

I also keep a set of 5lbs. dumbells to work out the arms while I’m reading a blog post.

I struggle with my weight, too. I’m also a stress eater and a ‘I’m bored’ eater – two dangerous combinations.

I finally got on the right diet plan and I take a supplement to help me with energy and curb my appetite – I have a tendency to snack at night. 🙁

I know a couple ladies who have tried the Weight Watchers Points system and they swear by it too.

I agree with you in that once we start to feel better about ourselves everything else falls into place – like being motivated to blog.

Awesome post Ms. Monna! I wish you all the best in your journey!

    • Hi Cori, Thank you for reading and commenting. A few months ago, I wouldn’t have thought I could lose almost 30 pounds already. You have a good idea to do a few stretches when you get up. I’m a bored eater too, now that you mention it. Losing weight definitely does a lot for your confidence. Have a great new week.

  3. Hi Monna,

Oh boy can I relate to this. I do take the time each day to do something for me (as you probably noticed in my FB live) Sometimes I can make up great excuses, but just a little thing can be the beginning of change and change becomes a habit.

Weight Watchers is a wonderful healthy way to not only loose weight, but to eat well. It keeps us mindful of what and when we are eating. I was on it for a bit myself and it trained my brain of what the heck I was putting in my mouth lol.

You will radiate at your daughter’s wedding because you are YOU!

    • Hi Donna, I enjoy watching your FB live videos. I started them but just haven’t got to where I do them daily but I will. I see how well they work for so many bloggers. I really am enjoying myself doing WW this time around. I think its because you figure your points, etc. on the computer. I either look it up there or use my Smartphone to scan the bar code at the store. I am looking forward to her wedding and I believe I will reach my goal before then. Not my total goal but my intended goal for the wedding. Have an awesome week.

  4. Hi Monna

I can relate to your post. Everyday I take out time to do something for myself. As I love walking which keeps me fit, I make sure to go for a walk every day.

    Thanks for sharing!

  8. Hi Monna,

First of all, I take my health seriously. I always make it a point to break away from my computer and walk 4-5 miles per day.

I used to be a runner, but enjoy walking more now. Plus it’s better on the knees.

During my walk, I listen to podcasts and visualize my goals and dreams. I personally find it a great way to clear my mind and get closer to nature.

Of course, it depends on where I walk. I am fortunate enough to have a very nice nature trail close to where I live 🙂

Thanks for sharing these tips and I think as bloggers we should all be sure that we are stretching and taking breaks often.

Good luck on your weight loss journey.

    Susan

    • Hi Susan, I have great admiration for the dedication to walking that you have. Listening to podcasts, etc. is a great idea. I do have to work on making myself get up and moving around more often. I get working on something and lose all track of time. Thank you, I’m still working on the weight loss.

  9. Hi Monna Ellithorpe ma, wow it is wonderful. Yes, we have to think about our health follow these things to get fitness. People follow the diet they skip meals to lose weight but these things lead to weakness and they fall it.

It is necessary to burn the calorie. In this busy life, it is necessary to take out some time from our day to take care of our health. Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi Sazia, Thank you. For many years I could not understand why I gained weight instead of losing it because I really didn’t eat that much. Then I read that what was happening is my body was storing food which turned to fat because I was skipping meals. I eat more now than I ever did and finally losing the weight because my body is actually using it. Thanks for visiting and commenting.

  10. Congrats on your weight release Monna. I am surprised that you stated that you are too heavy for exercise because there are exercises for every level of fitness.

And best wishes to your daughter on her upcoming nuptials.

    • Hi Rachel, Thank you. I guess I mis-spoke about the exercise. I have something wrong with my knee and hip and not sure I should exercise until I see what’s going on there. The wedding is coming up soon. Going Sunday to get my dress. I didn’t lose all the weight I wanted for her wedding but 28.5 lbs gone is good too.

  11. Hello Monna, What a great reminder to all of to take care of ourselves! I know for myself. I just have so much on my plate that I actually just forget to eat right and exercise! I am so proud of you girlfriend!! Thank for sharing.. Chery :))

    • Hi Chery, Forgetting to eat was part of the problem in my weight gain. I have to watch it really close. Like now. It’s 7pm and I’m not really hungry but I need to eat something to get my metabolism (I guess it is) working again. Thank you so much for the support.

  12. Hi Monna,
As a former professor of health and physical education and trained in body therapy methods, somatic and body psychotherapy and counseling methods, I know the value of taking care of yourself – physically, emotionally and even spiritually.
However, the world has a way of blocking us, distracting us, and getting us to ignore our own health – so easy to do.
I have always worked out, sometimes harder and more consistently, but always at least a low level of exercise. The food, however, could have used a huge improvement. I have always loved cheese and chocolate, fried food, mashed potatoes.
At this point I have purchased many different types of internal cleanses, teas, antioxidants, reds, greens, heart healthy, brain healthy, bone broth, protein powders, etc. Now, if I indulge in something less healthy, I know I can later take a drink of something incredibly healthy.
And – the Hippocrates Institute (world renowned, people come to heal from all over the world) is less than 45 minutes away from me in West Palm Beach. Maybe some day you’ll take a drive and we can go there together. They provide the most incredible display of fresh sprouts, so healing for the body and immune system.

    Warmly,
    Dr. Erica

    • Hi Erica. I’m not sure why but I’ve just never liked exercising. Even in school, I failed gym. I just wouldn’t do it. Eating better is not too hard for me but still have to work on the exercise. I would love to take a road trip and come over to see you sometime but it will have to be after I get the A/C fixed in my car. It’s miserable without A/C and I don’t go anywhere that I absolutely don’t have to.

  13. Hi Monna,
Glad to hear you are challenging yourself to feel better. I know from personal experience you just have to make the decision to change your eating habits and do some physical exercise. It’s all good and being well, feeling good is a foundation for success. Nice post.
